Organize your content into Categories

Last updated 11 months ago

You can either make your content pages directly accessible from your navigation pane, or you can house them within categories.

Note: A category will not appear on a user’s navigation pane if they have not been granted access to its content. See

Adding a Category

  1. Select your profile picture to access the Admin Settings menu.

  2. Select Manage Content.

  3. Select Add New.

  4. Select Create Category.

  5. Fill out the following options:

    • Name

    • Icon (optional): Select an icon from the drop-down list that will appear next to your category name on the navigation pane.

On the Create Navigation Option form under the header, it says "Parent Item: Main". This indicates that the category belongs to the main menu.

  6. Select Save.

Note: Your Category will not show up on the navigation pane until you add a content page to it (either Power BI content or a URL page).

Adding a Subcategory

You can create subcategories within a parent category. A subcategory will show up on your navigation pane underneath a parent category when it's been selected.

You can add subcategories in your Navigation Options. To do so:

  1. From the Admin Settings menu, select Manage Content.

  2. Find the category you'd like to create the subcategory in and hover over it to reveal the plus icon. Select the plus icon.

  3. Select Insert Sub-Category.

  4. The name of the parent category will be on the form where it says "Parent Item". Fill out the following options:

    • Name

    • Icon (optional): Select an icon from the drop-down list that will appear next to your category name on the navigation pane.

  5. Select Save.

Deleting a Category

  1. Hover over the category or subcategory that you wish to delete.

  2. Select the Trash Can icon that appears.

  3. On the 'Are you sure you want to delete this?' menu, select Yes.

Note: A category cannot be deleted if it (or its subcategories) contains content (page links or reports). Content must be deleted first.

Once you've created your categories, you can begin populating them with content. See and to learn how.
